a young friend is doing leatherwork, and i'd like to furnish him models of several different pistols to use to mold and shape the leather...rather than use my actual pistols...I've looked for metal replicas, but haven't fond any... thanks, jim

They make router bits for aluminum. So yes you should be able to copy. One side or a 360? Probably 360. For what you are doing they wouldn't have to be perfect.

As usual just my $.02

Could you vacuum seal it and make a mold of the pistol then cast a copy? Seams it might be easier.

Shoot straight, shoot often.

There are companies that already produce plastic replicas for most handguns. These are used for training and also for holster building.

Do a search for "blue guns" and "red guns". You will often find them selling for less on retailer websites and places like Amazon than what they sell for directly from the manufacturers. Most pistol replicas can be had for about $40.

Most I've seen are more pistols and modern revolvers.

Grenadier,
You maybe 100% correct. For some reason I got to thinking leather holster and dropped back to SA colts etc.

A stock duplicator is not rigid enough for AL even though the cutters might cut it. . But if he made patterns from plastic or even hard wood, well varnished, that would work for holster formers just as well. If you want actual copies of your pistols, you could use castings made from resin in rubber molds, easy to make yourself.

Man if you are talking 1911. Buy a bluegun for around $45 and be done with it. Or if it is only a one time thing stick your 1911 in a vacuum sealer.

I mold to a knife blade with just plastic wrap
