Will the action of a Tikka 512 withstand the forces of the 450/400NE or even the 450NE? I sent a mail to Marocchi to ask if they are willing to make me a custom barrel set in a low pressure round like the 450/400 or the 450NE, haven't heared anything yet. If they are willing to do it - would it be feasable? Would you think this action type would withstand the forces generated by such rounds? I know Ray sends his 450/400 to the smith to tighten the action once a year - will cost somewhat around $300 - $600 to get it fixed. A new replacement action for the Tikka (Finn Classic) will run about $300 - so I can have the same level with a $1200 rifle - even have shotgun barrels or combinated shotgun/rifle or double rifle barrels in smaller calibers.... What do you guys think about that? If this can be done, how many of you would be interested to buy a barrel set in 450/400? If they hesitate to go for the NE roundsm maybe we can get them to do at least a 45/70 doublerifle set wich can be easily converted to a 450NE.... Franz Can anybody provide the pressure figures (chamber and ?bolt trust? eg pressure on the face) for the 450/400 3" and 3 1/4 and 450NE in comparison to the 30/06 or 308? What I don't understand right now is that why a system that can handle the 30/06 shouldn't be able to handle a 450NE. [ 02-26-2003, 16:23: Message edited by: Daydreamer ]

Franz , I have a friend in Germany who transform a Valmet 512 ( = Tikka 512 ?) to 577 NE , I shoot it , it's OK , a 450 NE should be no problem . Daniel

Daniel Valmet and Tikka 512s are the same, they are now called Finn Classic - still produced by Marocchi/Italy. Hope you are serious - even I can't imagine to shoot a 577NE from the tikka action.... Could you get me in contact with your friend to share the experiance with his work on the Valmet? A 450NE on the cheap Tikka would be more than reasonable. Did he do something special to make it work, what did he do to get the barrels regulated? Cheers, Franz
