I’ve about decided to pull the original 7x57 barrel off my Spanish Mauser myself. I’ll probably buy the barrel vise from Midway, but what about the action wrench I’ll need?

4D rents some, but it is not clear to me that these will work on my small-ring Mauser.

Has anyone had success with a RENTED small-ring Mauser action wrench? Where did you rent it from? What did you pay?

Thank you Tsturm. 4D lists this action wrench:

Action Wrench – Remington 700 / Savage 110

Do you think this one will work? It rents for $25 a week, after a $75 deposit.

Just my 2 cents but, I think by the time you've spent that much money, a smith would probably do the job for you for about that price. Of course, if you want the tools permanently, that's not a bad idea.

I wuld advise not to buy the Midway vise. I had one and gave it away. It is just about impossible to grip the barrel with those wooden blocks. I tried every thing from rosin to sugar, and nothing works. The wood just compresses. A friend has one wirh steel blocks and aluninum bushings. Aome Mauser barrels are a bitch to get out. I would advisttakinf it to someone who has done it before. I have seen actions ruines by being too agressive with the action wrench.
