What is the magazine capacity for a pre-64 M70 in a magnum chambering? I always thought they held 4 down, but the Westerner I have only holds 3 down. Do any of the aftermarket bottom metals hold 4 down in a magnum chambering? I am going to make a .300 Weatherby out of this action one day, but it is waaaaaaayyyy in the future.

The Westerner here in 264 holds only 3 down. The pre 64 375 holds 4 down. I would not assume a 375 HH would hold 4 300 Weatherbys down. Don't know about the aftermarket. Join the NRA

The ones I am familiar with, a 375 H&H, a 7mm Mag and a 300 Win are all 3 down one one up. I have a "new" pre64 magnum action in 300 Weatherby and it is also 3 down. BTW 300 Weatherby in a Model 70 is a great combination. Paul "Diligentia - Vis - Celeritas" NRA Benefactor Member Member DRSS

The pre-64 H&H mag boxes hold four down. The short mag(.264, .338, & .458) boxes are a three round affair. The H&H boxes will not hold four fat shouldered rounds like the Wby. or .416 Rem. down. And three is cramped as they aren't wide enough at the front of the box. Blackburn Makes proper magazine boxes to go with his bottom metal that will hold four .300 Wby down.
