I am refinishing the stock on a Ruger rifle.

The pistol grip cap has a brass Ruger eagle insert covering the screw. How do I remove this insert to get the screw out without wrecking it?

tks, Mike

Mike,
I'm not sure you can get it out without ruining it. You can get the replacement insert from Brownells or Ruger for a few bucks. I just drilled a small hole in the cap and popped it out with a punch. The new one is just a light press fit into the grip cap.

Mike,

I haven't tried this on a ruger stock, but you can try using hot glue to attach a dowel to the emblem and then try to lever it off. Cover the emblem as thoroughly as possible with glue, and heat it up just warm with a hair dryer first. Use a 6" or so dowel the same diameter and glue it on, then let it set for a couple hours. If it pulls it out warm and peel off the glue and you can re use it again.
