Hello there guys, I need your expert advice; I own a Remington 700PSS .308 a while back I exchanged the stock with an Accuracy International Chasis System, I really like the feel of the AICS this is part of why I am very indecisive on what to do. A buddy of mine bug me until I sold him the 700PSS in its factory configuration, that left me with the AICS, Jewell Trigger, Leupold MK4 M3 long range tactical scope and rings. I thought it would have been a snap getting another Remington 700PSS (700P now) but somewhere making the purchase of the 700P I start to change my mind, I start thinking of going a bit farter and getting the 700 action and have some work done to it... have the bolt sleeved and the normal work, i.e., truing receiver face, lugs, and threads, Sako extractors, etc. And barrel it with a match barrel from Shilen or Krieger. Then I decided that spending that much money on the work of the action and rebarrel might as well get a custom action and I was looking to the Nesika Bay Tactical actions they seem awesome for what I read in some review but after a call to this guys I found out this action wouldn't perform 100% with the AICS they can make it fit but it would loose some of it's features, what brings me back to the Remington 700 action but somehow now I am thinking about the H-S Precision action I read some good review about this action, I haven't talked to this guys to see if it would just drop into my AICS. Anyhow I hope you guys get the idea, I am at a lost on what to do, I want a good long range shooting rifle where I can use the parts I already have. Should I just get a Remington 700 action and have the custom work done? If so what are the must things to do to give it as much precision as possible? Or should I just forget about the Remington action and go for the H-S precision? Or what about the Stolle Custom Rifle Actions like the Grizzly II (I don't even know if it will fit the AICS haven't call them yet) Anyhow I am hoping some of you experienced shooters can help me decide. I thank you all in advance, all your input will be greatly appreciate it.
sorry for the short post after your long request...
I've got a shilen DGA singleshot I would be willing to part with. It's setup for 222 in bench config, but should fit your stock with a minimum of fuss, except the obvisous of the floor plate. Oh, yeah, sounds like you are into tactical, and this has a canjar singleset on it. My wife shoots in the ones and twos with it... i can barely keep it in the 2's, but hey, what can you do. jeffe
This isn't meant to be a smart@$$ remark, but if you are looking at building a custom rifle on a Stolle or Nesika Bay action, why not do it right & get a stock to fit? If money is an issue, and you want to re-use your existing parts, go with a M700. If you are convinced that you need something better, do it the right way, and not try to cut corners.
Sell off your stock, mounts, etc for the M700, and buy new pieces for the Nesika Bay if you go that route. If you try to piece together components not meant for each other, you'll only be sorry with the whole thing in the end.
Hey thanks for the reply guys, Cold Bore, I did rule out the Nesika Bay after they told me the action would loose features withe the AICS, That is why I kept on looking for an alternative action. About the Stolle I haven't talked to them yet I am waiting to see what you guys recommendations are but if they tell me the same that Nesika told me they are out too, I am not trying to cut corners I just like the AICS very much I feel very comfortable with it and I want to keep it (I am even considering buying one of their complete rifles but the Sako TRG-42 keeps getting in my way), that is why I am here asking what is the best way to go having in consideration I want to keep the AICS. Thanks again for the posts guys.
