SnellstromBottom metal for Mauser 98, anything else have same hole spacing?
Need new bottom metal for my Mauser 98 project and got to wondering if anything else lines up with the hole spacing? Thought something not commonly seen on a 98 might be interesting.
Sako, CZ, Win M70, Rem, Ruger?
Anything I didn't mention?
Thanks

Joel/AKSnell, what exactly are you looking for? Unfortunately most of my hunting rifles are mausers. I have 1 win mdl 70 and that spacing is 7" (its also a short action).
Is this for your 9.3?

skbtry a milled bottom metal from an '03. They look great and have the right hole spacing. The trigger gaurd is smaller than on a mauser and lends itself to custom applications.

Quite right. The screw head recesses in the Springfield bottom metal must be slightly enlarged if using stock Mauser screws. Beyond that, it's an attractive alternative that was quite common in the early days of custom Mausers in the US. Below is an example....

On the rear screw, you also have to "take the angle out"... which is a 2 min deal, but the springfield has a slight angle on the rear.

SnellstromYes Joel this is for my 9.3 project.
I was just trying to think of something a bit different than the standard M98 bottom metal even though I kinda like it. I also really like the 03 idea and I'll have to take a look at that as I do have an 03 laying around waiting to be a Whelen.
Actually what got me to thinking was a Sako bottom metal I saw for sale and by the looks of the magazine it looks as if it could be inletted to work but I didn't know about the hole spacing.
