I'm a bit of a .41 cal freak and I come up with some pretty weird ideas at times, so here goes nothing.....I was thinking about converting an old Uberti revolving rifle from 357 to 41 special and I need to check some sizes to see if its viable.
If anyone has a small frame .41 Mag ( or a converted 357 ) that they could take some cylinder measurements from, I would greatly appreciate it.
For point of reference the cylinder on the Uberti is 1.675 OD
PM me if you can help.

Ruger OM Blackhawk 357 (about 1962 mfg)
1.672 " OD

Converted to 45Colt.
I keep loads in the safe range for that of a Colt SAA.

FWIW, Hamilton Bowen considers the OM Blackhawk 357 cylinder safe for conversion to .41Magnum.
/per a section in his book.

The Smith that built my Keith #5 in the Carolinas umpteen years ago + is now retired; offered building on a S+W N frame conversions from 357 tp 44. Persnoalt, I wanted a 44 spl. on a K frame. I know, when pigs have wings; but that would be an ideal cartridge. Actuallt that was what Bill Jordan ad in mind in the 1st place; a 41 Mag in a K- frame. I'm still for the idea but their engineers know better, I suppose that the K=frame can not handle the pressures. Maybe, but get the liability lawyers away for aw bit + MAYBE we could see some progress on one of many revolver ideas.

Never mistake motion for action.

Actually, a K Frame Smith can be shaken to pieces when fed a steady diet of .357 Magnum cartridges.

A 44 Special has no pressure so a 5 shot K frame would work fine.

'Spokhandguns' used to do a custom/conversion on the K frame S&W to a 5 shot 44special.
New cylinder of course and necessary change to the timing to the 5 rd cylinder.
I don't recall if a larger bbl shank was needed,,it would seem so for the caliber.
Been a while since the conversions were 'the thing to have'.
Dave Ewer (sp?) was the gunsmith doing the work I believe.

Thanks for the help so far,
Are these cylinders fluted or non-fluted?

non fluted cylinder.
If pre-hard 4140PH chrome moly or 416R stainless
barrel with 100/1000" wall thickness for 41 magnum
max. pressure, would give an estimated yield strength safety factor of:
psi stress safety factor
36000 92208 1.36

....bit of a side shift here, but does anyone have a copy of Handloader Magazine, No. 304, October 2016 and No. 305, December 2016 with the articles on a 41 conversion in a 357?

I thought there was a factory SW 5 shot 44 special on a K frame now? If not then get a Charter Arms, they have come quite a long way and they offer a 3", which to my mind is the sweet spot for this ctg. 41 mag is another story. Have never seen a smaller frame than the N or Blackhawk in this cal. It does call for a bit of extra weight.

S&W made a Model 69 which was a 5 shot 44Magnum. but built on the L frame.

They also made a limited run Model 696
The same revolver basicly but chambered in 44Spcl and with a 3" bbl.
Still an L frame.

I don't think they made a 44Spcl K frame 5 shot, but maybe they did.
The only ones I know of were the custom production conversons like the Spokangun revolver conversions.

Ruger made a run of their GP100 DA revolvers in 5shot 44spcl a while ago too.
The cylinder is long enough to take a 44Mag,,but the 44Spcl chambering is what makes them special I guess.
