Whew!

Thanks for the good news about the bolt body diameter.

Sounds like I can fit a 600 Overkill into one.

Yeah!

Dan-

I agree with TC1, some pictures here and on your website will help get some more of us all lathered up and "in the mood."

Also, there is no mention of the PH or the Mini and Charter series sales of either on your web-site. Something you may want to consider is a little update there.

Best regards,

We have some basic prototype pictures in our web site listed under "What's New" that show some rough prototypes of the PH action. One of my "new" projects is to take full control over our web site so that I can post new information immediately and on a daily basis for all to see. Currently we have another company doing this for us.

I still don't have any good information on the feeding of the 577 Tyrano but I am still looking and will post the results of my search, good or bad here as soon as I have something. Sorry for the delay.

I spoke with Rod about the 577 issue and he said that the PH will be set up for the Gibbs cartridges and that the bolt face will have to be opened up and the rails modified by whomever installs the 577 on the action. Wasn't really sure how it would feed or not.

Dan,
Thanks for the reply. I understand that you cannot quarantee anything reg feeding of the 577 Tyrannosaur in your PH because you will only develop it against the 505 Gibbs. Its ok. But my gunsmith tells me that it will take him less than ten minutes to say for sure whether the action is suitable to the 577 T-rex or not IF he has all the measurements/drawings of the action.
Can you post it here and/or send all this info to my gunsmith (Kjell Tonheim , e-mail: atonheim@online.no )? Thanks !

If the PH is big enough for the 505 Gibbs with a .800" diameter bolt face, you can rest assured that it will be fine for the 577 T-Rex. Thanks.

Mingo,

It has a 0.800" bolt body, not face. I sent Rod a seven page letter detailing why I thought MRC should redesign the bolt so that it could be opened up to the body diameter. Nothing became of it.
As Dan said, going 0.048" beyond what it is delivered with shouldn't cause any difficulties at all.

Roger,

A .800" diameter bolt body should be prenty for the .688" base diameter of the 577 T-Rex cartridge. I assume the PH has the left bolt lug protruded all the way to the bolt face like the P-14. This way, the rim on the bolt face can be turned off completely and it still have enough material left from lug to hold the case head in place. Since the 50 BMG cartridge has a .800" base diameter, I can see some wildcatting possibilites with it using the PH action. However, it remains to be seen, as the design of the PH action is not finished yet from what I understand. Thanks.

Mingo is correct, the design is not yet finished so if any of you guys out there have any ideas or things you would like to see in the PH, I'm all ears

Roger,

Just got your email with the letter attached this morning. I think we both share the same vision for an ideal big bore action. I have been dreaming about this vision for a long time. In fact, I already got several concept designs (3D solid modeling) done on the computer including finite element analysis but unfortunately I cannot share them to the world yet. I got a lot of concept design experience but not enough hands on knowledge. Who knows maybe someday we will start our own company. Thanks and take care buddy!

Dan,
The lastest design planning and layout presented by Rod in this forum should be as good as it's gonna get, at least for me. Let's concentrate on a PH magnum action that fits the 505 Gibbs with a bolt diameter of .800" and of course with the left bolt lug protruded all the way to the bolt face like the P-14 bolt configuration. This PH magnum action should cover a lot of ground since it will be good for the 505 Gibbs, 510 Gibbs, 577 T-Rex, and 600 Overkill.

Then later make PH SUPER MAGNUM action and PH Ultra MAGNUM action for the 408 CheyTac and 700 rimless Nitro Express shooters. I pefer not to see you guys come out with a mangum action so big just to please everybody. Thanks.

I agree with Roger and Mingo that the boltface should be able to be opened up to .750" - .800".

Thanks guys,
I will print out your requests and go over them with Brian.

Roger,
I haven't opened your letter yet, have only spent about 10 minutes at my desk this morning. But I will in a few and forward it to Brian for his reading.
Once I know anything, I'll let you guys know.

I took the plunge!
I've sent my money to Bob at Montana Rifle Co. for their new action and a 404 Jeffery blank.
I would have gotten #404 if some sneaky member of the forum hadn't beat me to it! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]
So I settled for #423.
I have arranged for our own John Ricks to work his magic on what I have purchased. I'm thrilled!

My only question now, is what barrel contour? I order their #5 Heavy Hunter. Anyone have any opines?

Rusty, I've always felt that a good rule of thumb is to add .300" minimum to the groove diameter for a good stiff barrel. With a #5 you'll have a very stiff barrel that should be a good shooter.
