lb404remove nickle plating on action
I recently bought a very nice Orberndorf Mauser action on line but did not realize it had been nickle plated. How easy is it to remove and whom would do that?

As Paul states, any shop that plates can remove, but all shops are not the same. Do yourself a real favor and ask what type of chemical stripper they use and the finish after it is stripped. I have had some stripped that looked like they left in battery acid for two or three days. There is more of a tendency for them not to care if they are not refinishing

Thanks

butchlambertNo,
I have known and used the company for 28yrs. The production manager is a close friend as are all of the principles.

tin canAny difference in dimensions once the plating is removed?
On the Mauser, is the plating internal, also?
If not, how was it masked so that it wouldn't plate?
Thanks.

lb404I will have to really look it over but from my last recall it was thoroughly plated. If it were not a 1935 Chilian contract mauser I probably would not have bothered in the first place. It is in super condition otherwise.
Thanks

jeffeossoyou can take it to a shop and they can pull it right off.. you can remove it
mechincally-- not an option, but you can
chmeically - muratic/HCL would do it.. but would have high risk
electically -- reverse plating .. electroplating is a pretty simple process, as its core. cladwell's might even sell a removal kit.
My advice would be to hunt down Butch's buddy and do it that way.
