I got a used custom rifle with a silly little brass insert with the original owners intials it. My son is left handed and doesn't hunt only shoots and so the next owner of this doesn't have to change it... should I have the insertchanged out with maybe the caliber on it? Polish it out and leave it blank or replace it and leave it blank if the engraving is too deep for a polish. The caliber is already on the barrel. It's gonna look funny on the medallion. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

Ok let's make it two to one. I agree with Forrest. If possible buff it out if not replace it. Caliber stays with the barrel not the stock if it is ever separated. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Have an engraving of yourself put on it so that in caes the gun is lost, you will be easily identified as its owner.

Polish it out, then have "SOB" engraved on it in Gothic font. That way, it will suit just about anyone who may ever own it, and for those it doesn't suit, at least it will be hard to read. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
