Purchased a 98 Mauser sporting rifle with this name on the barrel.
Searches of the internet have turned up nothing.

I purchased the rifle out of Georgia, but of course firearms can move around.

Hopefully this image will work.
If it doesn't please let me know.

Could it be the owner instead of the smith.

Do a "search" online.

I just did, died April '85, it don't say where though. Does give the cemetery name. Likely his home country.

Try https://www.findagrave.com/

Amazing the information in the database. . .

In a way there is too . . . TOO much personal information being amassed in databases.

My wife just finished "1984" and now realizes why I quote just the book title with certain interweb happenings/advances.

First, my thanks to all that have replied. Yesterday I was a sick pup and today I woke up to a power outage.

p dog,
Yep, could be the owner, but the equipment to engrave text in cursive in that time was expensive. More likely to be used by a 'smith to mark his products.

Thank you enfield and p dog,

I have a very good collection of American Rifleman from the 30s to the early 60s but I haven't unpacked them since we moved.......ten years ago. Confused

George,

Do you have the link you found?
Before posting this question I searched all of the following online.

Aksel Svensen
Aksel Svensen rifle
Aksel Svensen gun
Aksel Svensen gunsmith
Aksel Svensen smith
Aksel Svensen gun maker

Also did all of those searches(and more) with the last name spelled 'Svenson'
Surprisingly common name. Lots of hits including a fair number of obituaries.

BUT, not a single one that made any mention of Aksel working as a gunsmith or rifle maker.
