I've got a stainless bolt gun (Model 7) that I'd like to have blued. There was a local gunsmith who did this for me a few years ago, but he no longer provides this service. What are the options and who does a good job? Teflon is another option I'm aware of. Are there any do it yourself finishes that are good. Thanks

Brownell's sells a "gun coat" product that you spray on, and bake. It would give you a durable, black matte finish. I've heard that it does have a tendency to come off right around the muzzle. Haven't tried it, but had the same motivation you do. Decided to leave mine with a blued receiver and stainless barrel. Kinda getting to like "two tone".

JAB,

I looked into all the options 3 years ago and ended up having Dave Gentry blue a SS Mdl. 70. I'm very happy, it looks good, much like a matte caustic on CM steel, and has shown good wear resistance. You can reach Dave Gentry (406) 388 -4867 in Belgrade, MT

You may want check out the new Duracoat coatings by Lauer Weaponry:

I have not tried this coating yet but plan to in a couple weeks. The beauty of it is little or no baking. MtnHtr
