Gunsmith Client of the Week
Guy calls me yesterday;
My Mauser needs a new firing pin.
Ok, bring it over.
He shows up with the parts in the picture below. A 1917 Enfield, which he had tried to weld onto the FP tip.
You have a 1917 Enfield. He said, can't be; Enfields have the bolt head that unscrews. But my Mauser uses a thinner firing pin than the one I tried to fit into it. I proceeded to tell him about Enfields.
So, why did you weld on the firing pin? My rounds won't fire.
(He had sized them so much that he had .030 excessive headspace.)
Why did you cut the firing pin in two?
I couldn't unscrew the cocking piece.
Why won't the bolt shroud screw back into the bolt?
No answer, but it was because he had been hammering on the threads.
Some people should not be touching guns, or reloading.
This is a totally true story.

Hard to imagine such mechanical stupidity exists. Did you ask him if he could tie his own shoelaces?

People like that wear slip-ons... Laces can be too challenging.

He was driving a new Audi; he said he just traded off his 3 month old electric SUV because he could not figure out how to turn the radio on.
I have not heard from him since.

reminds me of when I had a '88 Celica Supra...had a terrible "knocking and rattle" noise while it was running. I first thought it was spark knock, but I always used 93 Octane. Come to find out, the previous owner had the harmonic balancer welded onto the crankshaft...
