In 1991 I wrote to the "Dope Bag" at the American Rifleman to get some advice on just how to go about setting up a barrel for contouring and threading. I got this reply from Tucson, Arizona. I kept the letter and just this week opened up my copy of Gunsmithing and found it tucked between the pages.

Dunlap's book has furnished me with every solution to every problem I every had with my home projects, especially stocking. His dimension for classic stocks are perfect for my taste. I have probably read and re-read this tome at least a dozen times, learning something each time.
He was a professional.

I've had Dunlap's book for a very long time....it's among the best aids I have.

And yes there's a letter in it.....except mine is from P. O. Ackley!

Well, I have 2 copys of Dunlap's Gunsmithing(I wore the first one out) but they doesn't have his signature in it. Oh well, I have a first edition of Ackley's Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders that has P.O.'s autograph in it. Had to threaten to bend a barrel over his head to get it though....... Bill

Check photo facing page 486, a Bob Owen Mauser with metal by Tom Burgess. I own that rifle, went into the Griffin Howe store in NJ a few years ago, there it was for sale, I recognized it immediately as I have read that book a dozen times. It is definitely a keeper.
