Boyds gun stocks
Boyds gun stocks
Thinking of getting one for a Rem 700 long action CDL, 30-06. Looking at laminate.
What's your experience on the quality of these overall, and how good is the lazer cut checkering?
Thanks

ramrod340They are ok, Inletting is loose. For sure glass bed it. Can't say as to the laser cut haven't seen it nor do I care for it.
As usual just my $.02

GracedogNot to change your mind or anything, but I had the same thoughts last year about restocking my 7mag model 70. After a lot of frustration, I ended up contacting Stocky's and ordering a Heritage Classic laminated stock for my rifle. They had an impressive selection of color schemes for the laminate, and when I received the stock, was surprised to find that the inletting was flawless, fitting much better than the factory synthetic that I was replacing. The rifle is heavier than before, but that helps with the stability and the recoil. Overall, my experience was excellent.

butchlambertI bought mine from Stockys.
Boyds are fine if you understand that they are CNC milled to fit everything so the inletting is a bit loose, but they are much cheaper than a hand inletted stock. I use them for quick, low end, jobs.

If you want a wood stock on a hunting rifle it is hard to beat the price.
I have not seen anything from Stockys

+10 --- I haven't seen ONE of theirs with cockeyed inletting -- on the other hand GAG and RMF would do "custom" work...
you can't beat them for the pricepoint - through ultimately these are just gunhandles

Big Wonderful WyomingI have been using Boyds for years, and i whole heartedly support anyone who uses them to stock a rifle.
Will it turn your Savage into a Dakota? No!
But it will be much nicer in the long run, and a little bedding and a little barrel channel work and you won't find a more accurate solution to stocking a rifle.

They also don't cot $5,000 dollars to inlet and checker like some of the Stock Makers I've spoken to in this and other forums… And that was with me supplying a $1,000 dried stock blank.

butchlambertThis ain't a Boyds, Stockys, or a $1000 stock, but it is exactly what I wanted.
I wouldn't use a Boyds if it were given to me!

DoublessIf you understand what you are getting at the outset, I guess they are okay. But they are very clubby and really need a lot of finish work, in my estimation...

Way back in the olden days, didn't Fajen or maybe it was Bishop that charged you extra when you ordered a stock over inletted for glass? Now we get it for free and we are complaining?
