IB404,

Thanks for the info. I'm under the impression the 3.8 long box that Sunny Hill make is wide, but I may be mistaken. .

Looks to be as steep as the ramp is its got to have a fair amount of work done to it no matter which box you use.

Any of those magazines can be modified, Dennes has modifeid them for me in the past, he just opens them up in back..

Sometimes these companies are like talking to a barn door, how the hell they got into the gun business is beyond me..Wiesner understands the .404 as did Ted Blackburn but I'm not so sure about Teds kids when it comes to more difficult questions of gundom..They have pretty much taken over the company I understand as Teds getting a bit long in the tooth and his health has not been great...and talking to the gun companies is a real way to screw up an otherwise good day...

Keep in mind that a 404 is actually shorter than a 375 H&H so any magnum box is long enough...The problem is width..a quick way to check that is to tape 4 or 5 404s in a stagger such as they would be in a magazine and drop them in the box and see if they fit...Most 404 feeding problems come from using 375 boxes, they work to a degree but not properly and sooner or later they will jam or let a round pop out while loading in a hurry as the stack is too straigt and not enough stagger...

As to your blank, it looks fine to me, just cut it to flat and put a Talley two screw grip cap as far back in the grip as you can or about 4"s behing the trigger guard, and then shape the wood around the grip cap...I use an undersize grip cap (Brownells) as I like a thin grip, in which case its a good idea to leave the stock a tad thicker in the cross section but cut at an angle if that makes since to you, I am not exactly sure how to describe this. I could show you, but can't figure out how to tell you..Its a trick I learned from Bill Hogue, the best stockmaker I have ever known, but he only makes buggys these days, or last I heard.

The Cassic action for Ultramag has a box that is 3.68" which is longer than needed. My Wisner box made for The Winchester is a little less than 3.6". The blackburn model is for 3.6 cases therefore a little long. I just out seat the bullets a bit and go on. The Sunnyhill boxes are 3.6 " but for H&H cases therefore not wide enough for the Jeffery round to feed without some fancy gunsmithing. If you accidently get one that does feed out of the existing box then count yourself very lucky.
