6.5x58R possible to ream chamber to better cartridge ???

Imagine an old (but nitro-proofed) drilling with a VG rifle bore....chamber is 6.5x58R (an ineffective cartridge.... and for which low velocities - there are no jacketed bullets). Is there ANY commercial, rimmed cartridge for which the chamber might be safely reamed?
Advice greatly appreciated.
THANKS!!!
Alex

There's a number of factors involved here. One is the question of the strength of that rifle-both the lockup and the materials from which it is made, as well as the amount of steel in the barrel, particularly in the section which would be thinned somewhat by increasing the diameter of the chamber.

Is yours the 6.5X58R Sauer cartridge? If so, it might be difficult to find a suitable case for conversion. The head diameter of the Sauer case is .433", too big for the .25/35-.30/30 size case to be used, and too small for other brass without the removal of a lot of steel from the chamber area.

Both the conical case configuration and the bullet diameter are quaint. One can sometimes use long heavy .257" bullets with decent results, achieving sufficient bore obturation ("Stauch-Press-Führung").
