Rough bolt travel

I've got a Heym bolt action in 270 Winchester. Rifle has gorgeous wood, and great blue. It shoots very well, but the action is rough as a cob. Bolt feels like it is running on sandpaper. I pulled the bolt and polished mirror smooth with flitz. That helped a little, but travel is still rough. Any suggestions? Thanks, Stoney

Check the follower and spring, to much pressure will force the bolt to rub against the top of the receiver.
Check the inside of the rear bridge for burrs from the scope base holes.
Lug ways may need a little polishing.

Yeah, what he said. And then, work the bolt back and forth looking closely at every contact point between the bolt assy and the receiver. check the tops and bottoms of the bolt lugs. Check the cocking piece and bolt shroud to make sure that you're not feeling roughness there. Everything that makes contact has to be smooth. Don't go overboard. Just get rid of any burrs and make it smooth...

Good luck,

Malm
