SDH,

Thats where I found out about his website! Smiler

One Hell of a job on those articles & pictures BTW...!

Can't tell you how glad I am that SA is running such high quality articles in a magazine that is really designed for the hunter!

Have you made any headway with regard to running articles featuring the work of top smiths like Tom Burgess, Jerry Fisher etc...?
It would be nice to see best quality hunting rifles & the craftsmen that produce them run right along side of the various hunting trips & destinations.....

Best Regards,
Dave

Dave, I'll be doing a column, every other issue, called Custom Shop. The first several will introduce various facets of custom gunmaking a piece at a time (Bolt actions-April/May, Single Shot actions- Aug/Sep, two on Barrels and Brl Fittings, etc.) there are several directions it could morph towards depending on it's popularity and the input I (and the editor!!!) get from readers. This is the second year of the Custom Rifle issue and I hope it continues.
Your suggestions are duly noted and appreciated, I love to see it go that way,at this point I'm feeling my way along. Thanks for your support!
BTW, Joe's site is just up, with a few problems (Mark Buchanan, not Joe on the home page (Nice leopard!), compressed photos, etc. It will improve. I shot much of the photography and sent him the image from the SA cover to also use on the site.
Here's another look at Joe's .275 Rigby that's on the SA cover:

Thanks again,
Steve

I was also very happy to see this months issue of SA. Keep up the good work. Would love to see an article on double rifles if you could fit it in.

I've got the latest issue of SA with the Joe Smithson rifle on the cover, photo by SDH.
That's a beautiful rifle, with an equally beautiful photograph!!!
Good point you make Steve, I need to let the editor of SA know how much I appreciate SA having you on board with regular articles, and magnificent photos.
Some BEAUTIFUL rifles in this issue..
There's something about color case hardening that brings out the lust in me... Big Grin I love it!!!

Sports Afield is a high class magazine with a heavy weight, glossy paper, not found in many other hunting and shooting magazines. I appreciate that. And, they have a good line-up of writers.

Thanks,

Don

Thanks guys! I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity.
bulldog, there are others vastly more knowledgable about double rifles than I am. I'll pass along the suggestion to the editor.
BTW, I thought the piece on the .470 was very well done.
