This is off the topic, but I thought I'd give it a go here since most smiths are FFLs. In the near future I may be selling a rifle or two. If I sell them here in the classifed do I need to go through an FFL on my end as the seller ($30 transfer fee) or can I just send the rifle to the buyer's FFL after receiving his signed copy? How do most sellers on the internet handle a transfer if they are not an FFL? I thought about putting them on consignment at the dealer but he wants 15% when they sell (and he doesn't list them on the internet - less exposure for me and less money me). Now I understand that he has bills to pay but on a $600 gun that's almost 100 bucks, seems a little high to me. Thanks, RJS

RJS, check out the thread titled "shipping rifles" on page 2 of this forum. I think your question (and mine) was answered on that thread.- Sheister

Thank you for the pointer sir. I saw "shipping rifles" the other day and skipped right over it, taking it literally. I'll talk to my other dealer who handles my FFL transfers when I buy one and see what he can do and how much. Thanks again. RJS

Once again! You do not need to ship from FFL to FFL. You just have to ship to a FFL so the transfer can be made to the new owner

Not unless you live in Californai and are shipping to another buyer in Calfornia. Then both the shipper and receiver have to have all of the California dealer paperwork. However, you can ship from California without a dealer, as long as you ship to a properly licensed dealer in another state, in accordance with the other states laws.
