| I am the last to know and have to say I still have no need for such a work of sorcery on a Mauser. The mere thought of it hurts my brain and I am sorry I even read this. Slotted heads have worked for the past 120 years or so; still good enough for a Mauser hunting rifle. Just say no. |

| Come now, Tom. Let's not be a troglodyte about simple screws. (betcha didn't think many WVU grads knew polysyllabic words did you?) How many bona fide custom M98s have you seen with action screws that are no longer indexed or the slots buggered? Things get even worse with small scope base & ring screws. Socket head screws & a healthy dose of Loc-Tite are prime candidates for getting drilled out. And while I've never had to drill out a slotted Mauser action screw, a properly hardened Torx head screw is bound to be superior. |

| Sure, RA; they are definitely superior in function in every way. I just wanted to get your reaction. Don't forget, I have your signature and your SSN; back then we used them as Service numbers. (I was your PR Adjutant). I see a new Visa card coming..... (I do note that your vocabulary has improved greatly since 1972) |

| The best thing about slotted heads is they tell you when some idiot has been inside the gun. |

I used torx head screws for all my screwing needs if I can get them for the job. |

| Didn't Duane post some photos of one of his rifles utilizing Allen headed action screws that were engraved? I remember being very surprised at how well they blended into a traditional custom firearm.

| Properly timed slotted screws will finish up in line with the centerline of the rifle and look great. Torx and other non-slotted screws are fine on a Remington or Savage, but look wrong on a quality firearm, IMO.
One of my Goudy rifles has short screw slots cut by EDM. They look great and let me know when I have the screw tension correct. YMMV. |

| Referring again to the Purdey videos on Instagram. There is an excellent tutorial on how they finish the action pins. Not for the faint of heart, especially when working on a finished action. |
