Technical drawings or dimensions for Win FWT bbl contour?

All:

I was wondering if anyone had or knew of where one could locate information that gave specific dimensions regarding the Winchester Model 70 FWT barrel contour?

I suppose I am most interested to get the technical specs regarding the taper of the barrel. The recent ones I have had seem to have a "dual taper". That is to say the barrels seem to have one taper out to about 10.5 inches in front of the action face which then transitions to a more rapid taper out to the muzzle.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

BB

The dimensions are given in The NRA Gunsmithing Guide. If you can't find an original, I believe you could find a PDF file. If not, I'd be happy to send you a copy of the page with the #s.

If you want Chuck dump that photo in that thread I started on mechanical drawings. I have people asking me about the old Featherweight conture off and on and I normally just refer them to Douglass's dimensions. Or if you don't mind I'll swipe it and add it.

Is the Featherweigh a straight taper barrel?

Might be optical illusion, but the chamber end looks a bit "curved"..?

No Nortman, it was a double taper with the taper break locations being based loosely on the node points of the 30-06 and 270 Winchester at about 11 inches, if memory serves.

I just did some quick trig and the top end of the taper is .3960 taper per foot so the included angle would be 1.5469 degrees ÷ 2 = .7734 degree angle per side.

The bottom end of the taper is .1320 taper per foot which would work out to .6302 degrees included angle or .3151 degrees angle per side.

You might want to double check my calculations but they seem about right. Me and math don't play so well together some days and this is one of those (some days). LOL
