What do you like to use to get that deep hi gloss finish?
Thanks dave

Glen71I don't.

Most high gloss finishes are some type of polyurethane. Just get it on there thick, without entrained air bubbles or embedded dog hair. Sand it to a level surface, sand to 1000 grit (or finer), then rub out to your preferred gloss. Just don't sand through the finish, or you are screwed.

Both Midway and Brownells have it(or had last I looked) Brownells is better since they don't have that minimum order charge.

D HumbargerI really like Pro Custom Oil. I thin it with mineral spirits. This stuff gives a fantastic finish.

hivelosityhow do you apply it? rub it or spray.
What ratio do you thin it to.
I looked on brownells web site and i am not sure it was the right stuff.
Do you have a link?
Thanks

jeffeossoDave,
get a can of oil
ten pick up a can of mineral spirits at the local hardware store.
the directions are on the can, and pretty simple
I won't go into the various mud coats, soaker coats and finish coats.. that's just up to you
you sand the stock
raise the grain
(if you like, sand the grain off)
in a sealable jar, put 1/8 cup of each oils and spirits
SLOP it on... thick.. and keep slopping it on till you are tired of it...
let it dry at least a day
repeat
third coat you put it on with 400grit wetdry sandpaper
then you decide how you want the finish... at this point, it should be a little, bu not much, blotchy
apply 100% pro gun oil with 400grit...
steel wool it off in a couple days
apply another coat rubbing it in with your hands
see how the pores look...
another coat
repeat until you are satisfied

winggunnerGentlemen,
I don't do stocks, however I work with very small projects using Ultra High Figured Walnut, both English and Claro and Black and Also Highly figured Maple and cherry. I use Polymerized Tung Oil. It is expensive, but damn the results are out of this world. I get it from "Sutherland Welles Ltd. It runs me about $28.00 a pint delivered. When this cures out it is HARD AND VERY SRATCH RESENTANT. It is time comsuming so don[t look for a two week job, but with patienjce yuou will be pleased.
