After being unable to find aftermarket boxes for converting 1917 and 1914 action to H&H length cartridges I finally found one of the numeric boxes complete with instructions. Since I was planning on making a couple of rifles up on 1917 actions I sought out a sheet metal fabricator to see if I could duplicate them. Turns out they can, and easily but they want a minimum of 50. I don't have a problem getting the 50 if there is a market for them out there.

Anyone interested in magnum length magazine box please chime in to see if this is worth doing. I could sell these for 15-18 dollars complete with machining direction for the action. Do you think they would sell?

Thanks

Yes they probably would, but I don't like them as they a narrower and would prefer them wider. GPC did them that way to ease the receiver machining. I just make a custom box correctly sized for the cartridge each time. All you need is a cheap brake from harbor freight and a jig or bandsaw. You don't need those bumps on the top and if you size the box right you will cut away those recesses anyway. But everyone of those GPC unit I had I sold on ebay or GB for twice what the cost from GPC. Might want to check with GPC before you copy their instructions and pass them off for sale, I'm sure there is a copyright.

I'm going to contact GPC monday and see if they would be interested in buying any. Building them by hand or converting the original box takes quite a while. It would be nice to have a available aftermarket part.

Selling 50 will be hard; you don' t need a brake; just bend the metal around a piece of aluminum or steel stock, with a vise and hammer. Weld up the ends; too easy to make a big project of it.

For my 416 Remington Enfield, I used the .375 H&H mag box from a Ruger that I got from GPC. They list is under the Ruger M77 Mk2 Express.

They sell it and the follower for $13, and $22 respectively.

It took less than an hour to fit it to the bottom metal with a file. I used Weibe bottom metal, but straightened Enfield metal will work fine as well.

4 down with a 375 H&H or 416 Rem. Front is too narrow for a 458 Win or Lott, but it would be easy to cut and adjust.
