I've had very little luck in welding these old parts, always end up making a completely new hammer. For an effective but ugly alternative, you might try silver-soldering or brazing a larger piece onto the broken stub and then shaping the spur from there. Also Dixie Gun Works has old hammers and will try to match yours if you ask nicely.

jd[joe] its a high end austrian double i dont mind paying. some time past someone had the same problem and found someone to do it on one of these forums and was well pleased with the results. i was hoping to have the same luck. regards bob
cowboycs: you got my attention the top part of the hammer was broken off and lost [approx.1/2 in.] is this something that you could repair if i sent both hammers so you had a pattern?
