I bought a 700 in .221, how do I adjust the trigger, or, if that's a bad idea, what aftermarket triggers are good?

I have a 221 rem. classic.Screw out the bottom screw on the front of the trigger assembly about one half turn and then try it.When set bump the buttstock on the floor as a safety precaution.

I would suggest you follow these directions. HOW TO ADJUST A REMINGTON TRIGGER Although the front bottom screw is the weight adjustment screw adjusting it alone is not the proper way to improve a Remington trigger.

Jay Gorski had a pretty in-depth post on this not too long ago. I have cut & saved it, so if Jay doesn't post it up again soon for you, I'll go looking for it.

A properly tuned Remington trigger is fine. However, if you go aftermarket, a Timney or Shilen are my choices for a hunting rig, with the Shilen leading the way. Rifle Basix is supposed to be good as well, I've just never used one.

And I'm sure someone is going to say Jewell, but they're a bunch of money, real light for a hunting gun, and the trigger shoe itself is too narrow for me.
