Anyhow, so I am loading up some NECK sized rounds for barrel break in of my new M70, without thinking for an instant that those rounds are NECK sized and fireformed to ANOTHER chamber(which unlucky for me was fatter, imagine that), and I load a livey into the chamber to see if it fits. Well, it gets stuck at the middle of the bolt drop. So, I am thinking that I have seated the bullet too long, and just work the bolt the rest of the way down, wasnt that hard, really. Will the bolt open, FUCK NO!! Anyhow, the last thing I wanted to do is stick a cleaning rod down the barrel with a livey stuck, so I got a rubber mallet, and tapped on teh bolt handle after I got it lifted. Tapping, tapping, then presto! The round goes flying across the yard(I had moved to the back yard as to not put a hole in teh roof if something went bad), and all seems good. I move back into the garage, and the extractor has broken clean off where it grips the round. Now to the question. How do you take off the old extractor, and put on a new one?? I was gonna buy a Williams either way, this just moved up the timeframe.

if it's a CRF claw extractor you pry the front of the extractor out of it's groove and simply push it foreward and it pops loose. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Wow! That sounded dangerous! On the Willaims firearms website he has step by step instructions for removing the extractor. Might have been a tad dangerous, but the worst part was my Father in law always says I am gonna blow my face off, and he happened to see me hitting the bolt with the mallet, so of course he asks what I was doing. I replied " I have a live round stuck in it, come over here and hold it so I can beat on it some more!!" He didnt help. Wussy.

OMG, ROFLMAO! Stuff happens but the way you said it! And to have the Pops-in-law there to see it? Boy it'll be a while before that one goes away. Speaking of Father-in-laws, How are your duaghters Fjold? Have they found a man who beats on his rifles with a mallet? It's nice to be at my desk at work laughing, it's rare, but thanks! Nate

They're fine, thanks. There were a few guys who I would have liked to have held the rifle backwards while they beat on the bolt. Don't know about "new" M70's, but on my PF,'76 If you put the safety half way, take the bolt out, unscrew the cocking piece, take out the fireing pin (all one piece), reinsert the bolt and you can cycle all the live rounds you want. Safely. Also a live stuck round is likely to go off if hammered out with a cleaning rod etc.

JAL, the extractor had a good hold on the round, I could not get it out even if I wanted to do what you were describing. I wish I could have done that cause then I would not have broken the extractor. I was gonna replace the extractor with a Williams anyway, this just speeded up the ordering process. Should be here in a day or seven.

Sure, I was just thinking that if one did get a loaded round chambered to try for fit, best not to have a fireing pin in anyway. Just looking ahead so to speak.
