I just receieved my Winchester model 70 Safari Express back from my gunsmith yesterday (after 1.5 years). When I opened the box, I saw the most beautiful rifle I'll ever own, but.....

...When I looked down the bore I saw the worst rust I've ever seen in any of "my" guns. The bore near the muzzle was bright orange. I ended up brushing out the bore with an extra stiff bore brush and some JB bore paste and was able to get the bore back to acceptable condidition, but it was not mirror smooth anymore.

Here's where it get's worse. I loaded some A-zoom snap caps into the magazine to try out the "historically reliable" action. The dummy rounds were pulled out of the action, but didn't eject (they either stayed on the rounds sitting in the magazine or just tumbled onto the ground from the movement of the rifle during cycling).

I'm REALLY STEAMED since I sent this gun to my smith for some custom work, a trigger/action job and "Reliability" test.

I don't want to send it back to my smith (he had it long enough). Does anyone know of a good Winchester 70 smith on the west coast, preferably N. California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho or Montana with a reasonable turn-around time?

I'd appreciate any help!!!

Thanks,

Mike

Send it to Guy Malmborg in SLC. Lock, Stock & Barrel.

Quick, good, and no rust unless UPS drops it in the ocean.

Thanks Z1R, but I hear his turn around time is not as fast these days since he is burried up to his eyeballs with work. More work than can fit in ones shop! Big Grin
