In fact one of the most reliable rifles I've ever owned was a Remington 760 (pump).....and some of them are incredibly accurate. However I bought my first M-70 in 1963 and I'm not going back.....Bolt action rifles are for me.

Because gun rags live on advertising dollars, and they publish (puff) pieces that will generate sales for their advertisers. "How to" and "Me and Joe" hunting stories have given way to product evaluations wrapped in a hunting exploits article. Tell it to the publishers of the gun rags in a clear, cogent letter (e-mails are filtered by low-level employees, and rarely make it to editors and publishers). George

I'm a whitetain hunter, mostly. So why don't writers ever do in depth studies or articles about these rifles ? I know bolt guns are very reliable and accurate but white tail hunters( at least those that have some years of experience besides shooting out of a blind)have not whole heartly taken it to their bossom. Seems that most writers just mention them and move on to the latest cartridge and bolt rifle. writers like Sell , Kollier and others used to talk more about rifle fit, sight alignment, actually hunting and stuff rather than the latest hot shot magnum and bolt gun. Most of the really serious deer hunters I know have a battery of several rifles to fit the conditions they hunt but most are packing something other than a bolt as they se bolts for long range shooting out West or shooting out of blinds over fields. I would like to see some stuff on rifles other than bolts or single shots.
