Mike at CZ USA told me he has had steel followers on order for over a year and none have been shipped. Replacements are plastic. I have 2 CZ550 rifles with plastic followers and would like to replace them with steel. Anyone making them or is there a suitable replacement? Thanks.

Good hunting,

Andy

Hi ACRecurve: I'll call CZ-UAS tomorrow (Monday) and ask Mike which follower will fit. I know I got a metal one to replace my plastic one from CZ. My CZ is a 7x57mm and the steel one CZ sent to me was stamped 7x57mm. There was a no charge swap, but that makes little difference if there are none to swap out. I used to like in Grants, NM, until June of 2005, when I had to move because of health reasons to a much lower elevation. It was hard as hell trying to draw out on a bull elk tag in a good area and the politics are so crooked it is a way of life there, but that is the most beautiful state I have ever lived in, or been in, in my lifetime. Enjough of my ramblings. I'll get in touch with Mike on Monday and see which followers will fit, and just for the hell of it ask why it takes so long for the company to get metal followers in to replace the plastic ones. Have a tolerable day. Tom Purdom

ACRecurve: I contacted CZ-USA and pretty much got the same as you. I did ask customer service to contact the company headquarters to find out if more followers will ever be sent and when there may be more coming in. I also asked what other followers may be substituted and got the "gee, we don't know if any others can be substituted." I would suggest submitting a question under "gunsmithing" for a smith somewhere who works on CZs and posing the question to that individual about possible "fits" of other magazine followers in the CZ 550. I am sorry I could not be of more help. Good Luck ... Tom Purdom

Lorenzo,

In your rifle's magazine: the follower is the thing that's attached to the spring that pushes your cartridges up. Most of them are metal. Lesser quality models are plastic.

You could try Jim Wisner, I know he makes custom followers for large diameter cases, I got him to make me one for a .500 Jeffery a while back

I jsut got back from the SHOT show and asked the guru at CZ that very question. He told me in no uncertain terms that CZ was not going to ship any, period.

Are there any other parts on the cz550 that are being replaced using inferior materials?

The follower is bad enough! Mad I hope it ends there.

Regards,
Dave
