Hey guys, I'm not familiar with the internal of triggers and need a bit of help. I mentioned to the local shop that I was missing the timney trigger from my 1903 sporter 06. It has a wisner safety fit to it, and used to have a timney on it and worked without trouble. they said they had one they pulled off another rifle they'd give me for 20 bucks, cool, half price. but it is not red like a timney, it is black. I just went out there, installed it, but when I run the bolt forward the cocking piece catches for a brief instant than just falls, it's not catching whatever projects up from the trigger (sear?). the trigger that was on before I believe was a featherweight, if that makes a difference. At this point I'm trying to figure out if: 1. wisner safety require adjustment of the trigger somehow to work 2. there is something wrong with this trigger? (I don't know if this is how it is supposed to work, but I tried holding the trigger back, pushing the sear forward to catch it, and seeing if it would hold, it didn't , but I don't know if that is how it should function or if it would need tension). If the wisner safety shouldn't require fitting of the trigger to it then I think I'll just buy a known good trigger and drop that in. thanks guys. Red | ||

It's possible the sear engagement on the trigger is set for too little engagement. You should be able to see the engagement through the hole in the side of the tribber plate. That being said, it's also highly likely--almost certain--the safety will have to be adjusted to fit the trigger, no matter what trigger you use; they are not "drop in". it's a two position. If somebody had the direction for how to adjust the triggers I could play with it more. I'll get pics of it so somebody can tell me what it is I'm working with. Thanks guys. Red | |||

Hey guys, for poops and giggles I took the bolt out of this springfield and put it in my springfield in 308 norma, which does have a timney, it functioned fine (at first was a bit stiff going to safe but after a few cycles it was all good) so what does that tell me? input appreciated. Red | |||

I think he said it was a two position one. Anyway Red, It will need to be fitted to the trigger on the rifle it is going on. I don't think the trigger is the culprit, it is the cocking piece that needs to be adjusted. Maybe I am more dense than usual this morning, but doesn't the Timney sear engagement adjustment change the relationship between two parts inside the trigger housing? How does that raise the part that is apparently not high enough to hold back the striker? | |||

Doesn't make a damned bit of difference whether it is a two or three positon safety; it should be worked on by someone completely familiar with its functioning and experienced with fitting it. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA! | |||
