Some Great Metalwork

We had a pleasant late afternoon visit here with Jim and Becky Dubell. Jim dropped off some metalwork and I am building a stock to fit it. You reading this Tom? It is such great work I had to show it. The bottom metal was what floored me to begin with. Jim built it from original issue milled bottom metal. I should have just sent mine(courtesy of Alvinmack) with him. I could not see a stop for the rings until I took it off. One is inside. Roger Kehr did the great bolt knob and the engraving for the caliber. I am not sure he is doing any more. I better find out before I rust blue it. Better make a note. I am going to go watch a movie and fondle this until the movie is over. I meant the rifle you perverts.

Chic:

Don't blue it, yet.

It comes to me after you are finished with the stock.

Great looking metal work. Thanks for posting the photos.

I wonder if he would be interested in doing another floorplate? That Springfield is very similar to what I would like to do to mine. Except that I would like to weld up and recontour the the receiver in that area.

His work is first class all the way. I would sure like to see stock pics as it comes along.

Roger,
Youve got it. Just finished the movie and am done fondling. Did you get to see the bottom metal?

What else are you going to do to it? I will give you a call tomorrow. Jobs like this just get my juices flowing.

That is some beautiful metalwork. The floorplate was done very nicely, and I like the way the rear base was worked out with the bolt stop. what kind of pattern are you going to be doing on the checkering? What about the stock design, what pattern do you have for the 03, or do you have to start all over?

(if it would help you I have a few (3) stocks on 03's, with comb but sans monte carlo, and another with the cheekpiece, would be more than happy to send one up to you to pattern off, or send a couple of them).

I REALLY like that. One doesn't see Springfields as much anymore. Wonder if Jim could do another similar to that?

Jim has been doing all of my metalwork for quite a while now. Everytime I go up there he has got some little gem in the works. Last time I was up I was fondling (briskly I might add) a little custom martini in 7x57R he built. I must have one. I will see if I can get him to post some pictures of it.

Any ideas why I can only see a "red x" when Chic posts his pictures? Do I need to change a setting?

Ramrod,
hit "ctrl + f5"
if that doesn't work, right click the pictures and click "show image" or words to that effect

Chic:

I'm not a 100 per cent certain. Some scroll work on the bottom metal. Now that it is getting close ( ), I need to have a conversation with Tom.

Lb404:

That's a four panel MacFarland bolt handle. I supplied the fifth panel.

Chick,

I've known Jim since he was a youngster down in Phoenix in the early 80's. He certainly is doing some very fine work and has since I've known him. Thanks for posting the pix.

Tom,
Jim told me about his days there and doing caustic bluing in the heat. He said he does not miss it one bit.

BTW, I have a question you might be able to answer for me. I will email you.

I have the same problem as ramrod- all I get for the pictures is a white box with an X in it. Neither right clicking or ctrl-F5 did anything. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get the pictures?
Thanks

That www.PHOTOBUCKET.COM seems to work well, for hosting pics.
Most people seem to see most of them most of the time.

Absolutely beautiful work, I particularly like the hinged straddle floorplate with the release inside the bow.

I'm going to step up and ask the question I bet many other people are wondering about: what was the cost on the floorplate?

Wow,

Just back from a week in the desert. Thanks for posting those pics Chic. It is hard to beleive that is even the same action I first received and then sent out to Jim. Boy he really did great work on the floor plate and the bases. Heck, Jim did an outstanding job on the whole thing.

It's hard to type after looking at those pics ... I am shaking so bad. I have to admit that I was worried when I finally received the action since it was not exactly as advertised and the extra holes were not filled correctly. Looks like Jim overcame all those issues in spades and then some.

Roger's right, He is going to do a "corners Job" on her yet.

Looks like I have some e-mails to get out.
