What is this, wood question
What is this in the photo. I see it in blanks on occasion. Is it a potential problem?

"Pins" or "branches" .. generally I think if it as a bend in the grain and minerals.. there was a trauma of some kind there, probably a little limb or branch grew near that.. some times they look nice... i have on on the forearm of my 376 steyr, in the WRIST of my 550express (go figure) and in the magbox of my 470 AR... don't SEEM to affect strength.

I've always viewed tham as a bend in the grain. Usually as it grows around a branch or damage. I don't have any in a stock but plenty on furniture I've built. Never had a strength problem. I can see how some would not like it on a stock.

As usual just my $.02
