DKimWin 70 conversion question
I've seen threads on converting 300WM, 338WM to 375 length cartridges.
Can you take a 375 length Classic action and convert it to a 30-06 based round assuming you have a new bolt? Do you need a new magazine box?
Thanks,
David

dpcdAll post 64 Model 70 receivers are the same length, H&H magnum size. (Not short ones of course.)
So, a 30-06 will (probably) work out of a 375 action; the feeding is controlled by the mag boxes on these. The same box will probably work.
Receiver bottom opening? I do not have a mag here; not sure if they widened that part. Check that and PM me.
BUT, you have a .532 bolt face and need a .470.
Sell your 375 action and buy a 30-06. No reason to do what you are asking and lots of reasons not to. You will be money ahead.

jeffeossoi believe there are actually at least 3 sizes on post 64s .. the WSSM, the short, and the long actions -- i think all long actions are the same length
totally agree with your final solution -- should be able to trade even, or even get some boot, if not, sell the 375 and get a new 30-06

MileHighShooterSell your current action, buy what you want. I've seen a few M70 Classics for under $600 in '06 based rounds.
Is your M70 a 375 already? If it is, I suppose I could help you out and trade you a M70 Classic 270 to get your project going....

dpcdAs I said, all post 64 long actions are the same length; all 375 length. Short ones I do not use for anything.

DKimThanks for the replies. Question was for exploring possibilities. I'll keep it as is - currently a 7 Rem mag (used to be a STW).
