Check the grade of the barrel before you get too excited. Shilen has three different grades, from good to outstanding. I have many Shilen barrels, and they have all shot well and cleaned up easily. George ------------------

Shilen is bad about turning out barrels until their tools are so dull, and out of spec's they have to stop, and retool. With that in mind if you get one at the start of the run, they are great. If you get one from the end of the run, they suck. I would check the grade as George said. I think I would also check with some other barrel makers, for their prices. I got a pre thread, pre chambered SS barrel for $250, from pac-nor, just last fall. Sooner

Shilen makes extremely good barrels. They used to sell seconds called Lone Star barrels a few years ago however I dont see it in their catalogue any more so I don't know if any of them are out there now or not. Their SS Match contoured barrels are $247.00 and their SS Select Match barrels are $267.00 so if your gunsmith is using one of these then he is pricing his labor pretty cheap. I think it would be wise to check some referances of some of his previous customers. He might be OK but usually a skilled gunsmith will not discount his labor on barrel work too much.
