I bought a hinged floor plate assembly from numrich to put on my 35 Whelen 98 mauser. Its a casting and only cost about 70 bucks. I thought I would report on it and I would like to hear if any of you professionals have used them.
It fits the corelite stock rather well although close inspection will show some gaps. The mag holds 4 rounds but would not feed at all with more than 2 loaded. I took a file to the 2 vertical spacers inside the mag well and now it feeds. Rather stifley but it feeds. The problem I still need to solv, is that when I shoot a stiff load the floor plate drops open. I thought I would try the Floor plate assembly from a Interarms MK 10 I have plans for but it fits the stock to slopy, so I am back to the numrich.thinking I might be able to clean up the corners on the little tab that fits into the front of the trigger guard with a fine stone in hopes it would engage better. If worse comes to worse I might just have my smith solder the thing shut and call it a closed box mag. I think the unit is workable with light recoiling cartridges, but I can't recomend it for any thing with much kick. Any body have a posible cure ? ...tj3006

I am not acquainted with exactly how the Numrich works. But it seems to me that a little judicious filing and you could re-work the locking engagement area. A stronger latch spring would also be in order. You can find springs that would work at a good nut/bolt specialty store for a few cents. Without seeing exactly how it works that is the best advice I can offer. Good luck.

The stronger latch spring sounds like a good idea! BUT the hinge pin might be of the permanant type,in other words
If yu take it apart im' not sure it will come together again. I wonder if Bill Ruger JR has consierd Building a cast floor plate for the 98, I bet they would build a vety nice one at a very good price, I can't see spending 250.00 on the Williams part But 125.00 or so would not be to much ...tj3006
