Either is OK with me. I'm OK on the price as well but might as well make it two sets.

Hi. I have been lurking in this forum for some time and find the info very interesting. This is my first post.
I have a CZ 550 American in 30-06. I want to know if the action bolt screws you are discussing here will fit my rifle(don’t know size or pitch or bolt). If so, please let me know how much they are since I want to buy 2 sets.

Jeffeoso: How do we put our name in the hat for a set? I own a CZ 550 American in 7x57mm and would love to get a set for that rifle. I've already posted, but is there some order form, do we just post we want a set and wait for you go get back with us on the board? I have no problem mailing you a check right now, if that's what it will take. Thanks for your time ... Tom Purdom

All,
when I get them made up, i'll post my email address and then send the info on the screws...

my "usual suspects" for dies don't have the .75 and I guess i'll go to mcmaster to get it.... sucks...

yes, I COULD do the threads on my lathe, but a dies is easier.

I don't know if the mediums are the same length and head size, but I bet a file will fix the length!!

Rutland Tool will special order taps and dies in any size or pitch you want. I’ve ordered special sizes before and the price difference for custom sizes/pitches ain’t all that much more than standard sizes carried in their catalog.

FYJ, Malm,

mcmaster just confirmed they had dies in stock, so the order is placed.

Malm,
turning 100 pieces of .75mm thread? good pratice, certainly... something that is worth anyone's time? heh, not so much.

Maybe you could behave like a member who wants to stay on this site and if you have nothing knowledgeable to add to the discussion, go have a beer.

I'm tired of your shit attitude and snide posts. If you have no respect for our management, go play elsewhere.

Take this as your last warning Jimmy.

If these screws are so damned hard to come by has anyone considered just drilling and re-tapping the receiver for something more easily obtainable like 1/4x20 or 1/4x28?

Frankly, because the "customers" didn't ask for their receivers to be redrilled, they asked for screws.

and since it is an odd size, even in metric countries, it's an odd duck. If it was m6x1, there's a zillion of the dies laying around.

anyway, they wanted a hex head screw for an m6x.75, and will get them.

Nope, but it alerted me to the fact that your former user account was on the ban list.

I wish the heads weren't so big on these blanks. I don't have a lathe so I get by with a drill press and a file, a real pita.

Jeffeosso:

I have measured the lenght of the bolts for the CZ 550 American (30-06) rifle. They are a somewhat shorter than the Magnum action. They are:

The long one: 1.644 inches long (the unthreaded part is 0.994 inches in length)

The short one: 0.954 inches long (the unthreaded part is .0406 inches in length)

The diference in size is the lenght of the unthreaded par of the bolt. All other parts are the same.

If you are willing to make the bolts for the standard action (30-06 size). I will be more than happy to pay for the extra work involved.

Thanks.

Interesting word choice. The Latin phrase caveat emptor of course means 'let the buyer beware'. The phrase caveat venditor means 'let the seller beware'. In Latin, there's no "emperator" but there is a word, imperator. Imperator was an imperial title sometimes self-endowed by military commanders. So caveat imperator would translate from the Latin as, "let the self-proclaimed big wig beware".

And that, boys, is your Latin lesson for today.

You see, I even used one of the smiley faces. But I think I'll be able to shorten a screw if required.
