I'm sure I saw this somewhere, but I'll be dipped if I can find it again. The Builder used an offset scope mount to bring the clamp back over the reciever ring to allow a low mounted scope. Does any body here see any problems with this? I thought it looked like a slick way to get a low mount scope in claw bases without cutting the reciever. Rusty's Action Works Montross VA. Hello Rusty Personaly i would never recomend slotting anything into eather the top of the reciever, ot into the chamberarea of the barrel. Why not just tinsolder a ring with the clawbase around the chamberarea . I dont say that it is always dangerous to slot, but it always weaken a stressed area. If not dangerous, it makes the stressed area unsymetricaly. This might lead to unpredictable barrelvibrations, leading to unpredictable and/or poor accuracy | |||

I finally found the photo I was looking for, or one like it. On closer inspection the front claw mount is dovtailed through an integral quarter rib. On a side note, just about every Muaser in the Big Book of Mausers that has claw mounts, the front is dovetailed through the reciever ring. I agree Jorgen, dovtailing the reciever ring would definatly detract from the stiffness of the barrel/reciever unit. Rusty's Action Works Montross VA.
