Greetings gents,

I am looking for a qualified gunsmith in the Santa Barbara area, as well as a good gunshop in general to go to.

Surely there is someone from the area who posts here.

Any help would be appreciated.

You might get ahold of Dear Rumbaugh at Weatherbys in atascadero. He might turn you on to a good gunsmith. van

If you go to the Guild site, Santa Barbara, you may find one member from Santa Barbara.

I've forgotten his name, but he made the "London Guns" recoil pads that Brownells sells.

I looked up London Guns in the book, and got his wife.

It's a heartbreaking story.

"He has a great shop," she said, "but now he doesn't even know it's there."

As far as I know, most of the local gunshops farm out serious smithing work.

It's probably not politic to mention it on a public forum, but I got a more than credible introduction to Rick at Goleta Valley Gun and Supply.

His is a small shop, but the service is personal.

I can't say for gunsmiths, but just in case you like tattoos too....Pat Fish is in Santa Barbara, I know she specializes in Celtic but the woman can do other stuff as well (Aztec or Mayan was one I saw that rocked). She is not cheap but does great work and is quite eccentric.

Good luck finding a smith.

Hi S.B.,

Welcome to Acc. Rel., and to S.B. (if you are new here).

Rick at Goleta Valley gun is a great guy, and so is Jerry at Far West. Dodge city is now closed for gun sales by the ATF for not dotting an "I"; but still have a good selection of reloading components.

There are no full time gunsmiths that I know of, but many home/hobby smiths. The only work I send out for is for rebarreling.

I am a longtime local, PM if you need any info.

Thanks for the replies.

I visited Goleta Valley today, looks pretty hole-in-the wall with about zero selection. Cant comment on the smithing but Rick seemed nice enough.

Far West was rather disappointing selection-wise also but at least they have the volume to hire employees (GV is a one man business). Anyways, I happened to be at Far West when it sounded like there was somebody applying to fill a gunsmithing position so I may return that way again soon to inquire.

I will have to visit Dodge City, hopefully they have more than 200 sqft of floorspace.
