Anyone here that can refresh my memory as to the position of the bevel on the friction ring when it's in the forward (heavy load) position? This is a 1953 Belgian (A5). Trying to help my son from a distance, who has the gun. My Dunlap Gunsmithing book shows the Savage clone, but I'm not sure the Browning's exactly the same. Had this info in an old "Rifleman" but it got lost in the shuffle. Thanks.

The way I remember it is that the bevel is always pointing away from the spring. Up front it faces the bronze ring in front of it and in the back it faces the receiver. Only a couple of months ago I googled it and found the diagram on the browning website (though I didn't find it directly searching through the menus on the site). I tried it a minute ago and didn't immediately find it, but I'm sure I just need to add or delete a word. Hope this helps, Steve

I also owe youa thanks. I have a model 11 remington that was in pieces and was wondering how to put it together. The A5 and the Mod 11 are almost the same. Judge Sharpe Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?
