Here's a nifty Granite Mountain 404 being built by Ralf Martini for Jim Sherman's upcoming safari:

Forrest,

Thanks for posting the pictures.

A few detials. As Forrest noted, the rifle is a work-in-progress and has a Granite Mountain Standard Mag. Action, 404 Jeffery.

Ralf still has some final sanding, etc and he is replacing/reshaping the original bolt before he finishes up the stock and starts applying finish.

The blank is Turkish Walnut I purchase back in 2006 from Denli.

The barreled action is going to the Engraver next week. The Bridges will be cut and set-up for Talley Rings and then action will then head to Turnbull to be color cased.

I pretty sure I am going to have the recoil pad covered in leather.

Weight of the rifle is approximately 8.5 lbs. without optics. Ralf has a Schmidt and Bender 1-4 flash dot to install on the rifle.

Hopefully, I will have the rifle heading my way in 3 weeks or so.

I am really looking forward to having this rifle in my hands soon!

Best,

jjs

Excellent action, great metal work, all mounted in a classic, British styled stock of beautiful walnut.

Please post photos of the finished rifle.

It will be superb, I am sure. tu2

Nice looking rifle. Nice lighting job, whoever took the pictures! Almost looks computer generated!

I understood the same? When I spoke with him in person about a year and a half ago he said he had stopped color casing mauser actions? It may be I misunderstood and new production are excluded?

Could Doug be referring to old converted military Mauser actions?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. I am really looking forward to getting the rifle and putting in some practice time, as we are heading to Masiland the day after Thanksgiving.

Ralf is really a fine person to work with and he tolerates my inexperience very well Wink

As far as the c/c hardening goes, I have no idea.
