I have a Mauser 66 (interchangeable barrels, telescoping bolt) with the standard length action. One barrel is 458 Win Mag.

500gn Woodleighs seated to the crimpng groove just fit the magazine and feed perfectly and I can get 2120 with no pressure signs. So far, so good.

I want to use the 400gn Woodleigh Protected point as it is much more practical for aussie game but to get it to feed I need to load it to the same OAL as the 500gn. This does not leave much neck to grip the projectile but does give 2400fps and 0.5 MOA groups.

What are your thoughts about rechambering to the Lott and using Lott cases for the 400gn loads and Win Mag cases for the 500gn loads.

Mike,
How much is not much on the neck? Make up some dummy rounds and run them through as hard as you think you might in the field. If the bullets don't move or tilt in the neck I would leave it alone, or pick another bullet.
