I've got the opportunity to buy several custom rifles built on Pre64 Super Grade Model 70 actions...caliber .270. If I do I will probably have them rebarreled...anyone know what one of these actions in nice shape is worth?

i wouldn't put over $300 in the action. less if they've been worked over by an unknown smith.

Any M-70 action pre 64 is bringing $400 to $500 and in a Super grade probably $50 more and in a magnum caliber they bring $550 to 600 and another $50 for supergrade. or there abouts, depending on what part of the country you live in.....

I will pay $300 for any control feed M-70 action at any time if in decent condition and that merely means no deep pits....

Ray has it about right- (as if there was any doubt) - I see them at gun shows and other places quite often for the prices Ray quotes, slightly more for a custom rifle made on one, a lot more if they are a semi custom but with very good wood. If you are going to buy the whole rifle and rebarrel, consider if the wood is good enough to keep and reuse. If not, then discount that from the overall cost of the rifle. If the cost then is above what Ray stated, keep shopping. If you see ANY Pre 64 model 70 action for $300 or less, in good condition with all the parts, buy it.- Sheister

I'm a bit suprised....with the prices I see talked about for various Mauser actions that would need work to be usable I would have thought a good pre64 Model 70 would bring more. Would you prefer a Mauser action over the Model 70? and why?

I actually prefer a good Mauser to a M-70 but the M-70 is a close second, I prefer the pre-64 version to the new controlled feed..

The M-70 is a lot less expensive conversion to a custom rifle than a mauser...both are fine rifles.

The gunsmith that I frequent credits me $450 for supplying him either pre-64 or classic non-magnum actions.

A super grade with the metal in good shape, $600, to $650. Bluing doesn't matter since a gunsmith will reblue.
