Anyone have a set of Toms rings(1" low) they may be in tersted in selling?
Are the square bridges on a Granite Mountain Mauser STD length action, wide enough to accept them?

The rings are made for his custom bases. They may be interchangeable with other Burgess bases but won't work with a factory base.

A Granite Mountain action deserves the matching set! Big Grin

Actually, I was just thinking about these base and rings today, I might get a pay raise this fall and if that happens I am going to try and set aside enough money to get them done on one of my rifles.

Woodjack,

Oops, I was wrong, sorry about that. I really should add the words "I think" to my statements more often. Frowner

Sorry to Mr. Burgess too. Just shows that I HAVE to get a set so that I know exactly what their dimensions are and what they would work with.

How's that justification Z1R? Think my wife will buy it? (I tried to convince her last night that my pay raise this year would be better put towards gunsmithing than retirement, in the end WE decided that 50 towards an IRA would be enough to start with on top of my existing retirement.)

Red, I will send you a photo of mine and you can use them as subliminal stimulation for your wife. BTW, they are not for sale. They are absolute gems. You know how much thought and genius he puts into all his work. His rings are no different

Thanks Chic! I'll take yours with a couple of pics of them I think I got from the 416 he did with D'Arcy Echols. I'll have a friend that works in video splice the pics into some romantic movies. "honey, do you wanna watch that Jennifer Lopez movie?" Big Grin

Dago Red,

Thanks for posting the pic! I actually saw that rifle or one like it at this past SCI show. What a beauty!!!

Anyone able to post pics showing the underside of the rings & bases and how they mate together? I would like to learn more about the Walking Parrallelogram principle Mr. Burgess employs to keep these rings tight even on the big kickers.

Regards,
Dave

DavidC,
These rings employ a cam and from unlock to solid is a 90 degree turn of the lever. You can see the recess above the axis of the lever where the cam resides when it is unlocked.

The way Tom explained the walking parallelogram was this: Consider a rectangle with 90 degree corners. Now push in a horizontal direction on an upper corner. The top and bottom sides will still be horizantal and the front and rear sides will be parallel but slightly off vertical. Now when the scope is in place and the recoil tries to drive the gun to the rear, that edge at the top will bite into the scope ever so lightly and help to stop any movement of the scope.
