I was in a hurry to get a package shipped yesterday so I stopped by the local UPS Store to drop it off. They said that they got a memo this morning that stated they "can no longer ship rifles". I told her it was absurd and she agreed. She got on the phone and made several calls to the main UPS hub to see if they could take it. The could not give her a straight answer, so I decided to take it to the USPS. The lady at the UPS Store assumed that the main UPS hub would ship it, but then why not the Store? Is this a new policy for UPS or just for UPS Stores? I wont use UPS anymore if thats the case. ----------------------------------------------------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him. I avoid UPS like the plague, but for some reason (can't remember now) had to use them last year. I knew Mailboxes Etc. and the like could not ship guns through UPS so I went to a UPS store. They could not do it either and the manager showed it to me in print me in what I guess was their store operation manual. I would have to go to the real UPS hub to ship. I just remembered what the deal was. I had to ship the guy some ammo in a seperate package at the same time as the rifle, so I took both to UPS. When I mailed the rifle through the USPS later that day, I had a Kansas address with an Alaska zip code. I was sweating bullets, but the rifle was in KS in 4 days. The client laughed and did not care. he thought it was funny and said he would love to hunt in Alaska, and was glad that at least his rifle got to see the state. Now I am not admitting or suggesting anything here. All I am saying is that if you bring a wrapped box into a UPS store, they ask you what is in it. You read into that what you wish. And regarding UPS and guns anyway, I always use the USPS. More reliable, nicer and more informed people to deal with, and if something breaks they will pay the claim. UPS insurance is cheaper, but have you tried to get UPS to pay for a broken gun lately?

The UPS and UPS stores are different. The old Mailboxes company was absorbed by UPS but has their own management. It is policy with the UPS store to not ship guns. You can go online, set up an account and ship guns through the regular UPS. You can also set up a pickup at a specified time or drop you package to any UPS truck you see. I appreciate your concern with UPS but I owe them some loyalty; my son is a driver. I think it depands on local areas. No, the individual stores can not take them, but the hubs should. Locally, I have never had a problem with UPS shipping any firearm, but I can bet on having problems with USPS. I have never had a problem with FedEx either, but others have. I have had UPS problems and none with USPS. I only ship USPS registered mail. It is the most secure way to ship anything. The stories about UPS refusing to pay claims on damage guns shipped and insured throught them are commonplace.

Same BS for me I have to drive to the UPS depot. They will ship all the supplies for every deviant behaviour in the world but you can't send a barreled action out to get worked on. Windage and elevation, Mrs. Langdon, windage and elevation...

I opened a credit card account with UPS and they pick up whatever I have with no question. The account cost nothing until you ship. That being said. A couple years ago I took a floor model New Hermes Engraver to a UPS store because they said they could pack and ship it. It cost $175 for them to pack and ship. It got destroyed. They told me they wouldn't pay because it wasn't packed right. After blowing my stack about how they were the ones to pack it and insure it , I had my attorney call them. I got my money. I sent my friend his check back and he got to keep all the pieces. Cost him $65 in parts to fix it. He ended up with a $1500 engraver for $65. Butch

As "larry" said, it depends on the area you live in. I live in an area where everybody owns a gun and hunts and have never had a problem shipping guns or ammo via UPS, even thru the local "store". USPS is supposed to be a better way but you can also run into the a-holes there who do not know, or choose to ignore, the regulations. Everyone tells me to go the route Butch recomended - set up your own account, print your own labels and call the big brown truck to pick it up. Ray Arizona Mountains

Nothing has changed, UPS Stores never were supposed to accept firearms for shipping. https://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/prepare/guidelines/firearms.html

I have had issues with both UPS and FedEx. It took 9 months for UPS to pay. FedEx destroyed a rifle between July 11 and July 14, 2007. Only after threatening a federal lawsuit did they pay about two weeks ago. I have since closed my account with them. I did about $5,000. per year shipping with them. No more. I use USPS when I can. Last week I shipped a $2,000.00 rifle next day by UPS. I insured it for $2,000.00 and it arrived in good order. Longshot

There is an association of shipping retailers (can't remember the name and too tired to look it up) which represents all of the franschisees for the major carriers. There is an agreement between the Carriers and the Franchisees that the franchisees will not accept firearms or ordinance from customers for shipment. Here is the extreme example which I repeat weekly. If I want to use UPS to ship a firearm or ordinance and do not want to wait for a pickup, and/or I need to upgrade my packing (like shipping gear to Perplakistan) I drive three blocks to the packing specialist guy, walk in his back door with some firearms, lay them on his packing table, he packs them custom for me, THEN I drive approximately 45 feet accross the street and repark, walk in the front door of the UPS hub and proceed to ship the stuff with no problem.
