Gentlemen,
I'm waiting on the McMillan WSG and the Williams Stainless 1 piece trigger guard to arrive for my Win M70 Stainless Classic in .375 H&H. I have a new set of Leupold Mark 4 1 inch rings that I don't have a use for and was curious if there would any reason not to use them on this rifle? I'm aware that they don't make a Mark 4 base for the .330" spacing on the rear bridge. However, I would imagine it could modified to accept a HD steel cross slot base. Any thoughts? Regards, Matt.

Btw, I have the T handle torque wrench.

Give Leupold a call or e-mail and see if they will sell you a set of undrilled bases. I have done this in the past (not Mk4's) to overcome off-center holes in a M70 .300 H&H (came from the factory that way!). Leupold and Buehler used to be fairly easy to work with.
Hope this helps.

Matt,

I thought Leupoldonly made those for Rem 700s.

But if they are for Model, thereis no reason another hole could not be drilled.

However, it would really need to be done "extra right" because of that close hole spacing.

Unless you just want to play about, I would agree with Ray's comment.

Leupold does or at least did make MkIV bases for the Mod. 70 but in a 2 peice only. if you wish to use the rear base you have, just have the rear hole tig welded up and redrilled. a vertical mill works best for drilling the new hole.
if you decide not to use the MkIV bases email me with a price. i'd like to have them!

The Mark 4 rings will fit the Weaver-type cross slot bases. Brownell's sells a variety of different models, including models made of steel. See if you can find one to fit your rifle & mount the rings to it.

The Mk4 rings are awesome, but I do believe the bases are over-priced, especially considering how easy it is to substitute for them.

BTW, I have a set of Mk4 rings on a set of Warne (I believe) steel bases, works great.

Gentlemen,
I spoke with Mr. Ricks via e-mail and he essentially echoed what everyone has said. There are steel cross slot weavers available from both Warne and Leupold for the Express Action's .330" rear screw spacing. Should anything preclude obtaining one that's ready made, they can easily be made from stock. I greatly appreciate everyone's take. This place is first rate for getting well qualified answers in a minimum of time. Thank you, Matt.

GH, I don't have the bases, only the rings oddly enough. Will be happy to pass on my impressions of the ones I do use if that might help. Best, Matt.
