I'm working on a little Martini Cadet, the action is currently in the white and I would like to know how to finish it in the "white"? I seem to remember something about a caustic "dip"?

I guess my question is how to achieve a white finish on the action?

I would think at that time period the receiver would have been color cased. Or just grey case hardened. But I see many pics that look to be rust blued. Not sure.

Look up recipes for French Gray; that is what you want. Several ways to do it using various forms of alchemy.
