Jim Preslik?
Was Jim Preslik at Reno?

He's been a source for nice blanks at reasonable prices, and I'm hoping this hasn't changed.

Preslik was there. I bought 2 nice English blanks off him for a very reasonable price.

He estimated shipping costs. When I got back to Texas he sent me a $15.00 check marked shipping. I suppose it meant shipping was cheaper than estimated. A man of character to be sure.

Everyone at the show was very congenial except for one person. He did not know me from Adam yet was very rude and insulting. This person was also selling stock blanks. He will never get my business, ever.

A crappy picture......I paid $225 for this blank. I was real happy with it. Getting it checkered now. I think he offers a better value than most.

Alen, yes it's english. I should have it back in a few weeks. I'll try and take some clearer pics. I'm real happy with the wood.

Ditto, my experience too. Years ago his father brought magnificent lumber to the Houston show.

Dempsey-

Not to hijack this thread; but, tell us more about your project.

I love the color of your stock and I would like to hear more about the metal, action, barrel, etc.

Yup, I know exactly who you mean. Unless you look to have a bottomless pocketbook, he won't even look at you. I know, have met him on occasion every year since 1976 and he has yet ever had the courtesy to say hello.

30 Cal, Nothing too fancy. It's my pre-64 .270 with original barrel and Williams bottom metal. I purchased the wood from Presliks and sent it off to Mike Kokolus to turn who does a good job. I finished it up and sent if off for checkering. I like to keep some sort of project going to keep me busy, especially in the winters.

Yes, Jim was at the show and yes he still has some very reasonably priced stock blanks.

Just as a suggestions, you might want to hold onto a Preslik blank for a while before trying to make a stock from it. (maybe a year or two?)

I have bought many quality blanks from Jim and his father Ed Preslik, who I miss each year when I realize he won't be at the show in Reno.

That is one hell of a nice stick of wood for $225.00.
