Are these neat guns or kinda "crapy" (piece of junk)? What about the new Savage Favorite? Hows it compare to a old stevens?

mine is my dad's rifle and is in fair condition. It handles the Rim fire rounds quite well but isn't known as a target rifle. I believe Savage made a rerun of them a few years ago (maybe still do) and those should be in excellent shape. Nothing wrong with them at all. I still see them as "kids guns" and not much more. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I have a modern Savage 30G on which I mounted a scope (Weaver 3-9). It is a fun gun, and relatively accurate. I am a sucker for single shots. Pete "Be kind to your neighbor, he knows where you live."

I will have had mine for exactly 30 years on christmas day, (thanks grandpa). Savage with full octagon barrel. I have killed a lot of squirrels with it. The only problem was a couple of the pins that hold the receiver together broke and had to be replaced. ----------------------------------------------------- Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him. Mine goes back 35 plus and still gives me the same thrill as when I was younger. I was never as good a shot as the rifle. Frank

35 + ? Though not a Savage mine is a beautifully made German falling block .Made in the 1930s ,brought here by a soldier after the war.I learned to shoot with it about 1950.Yes I was spoiled !!It's still my squirrel gun, giving me years of pleasure and started a long love affair with single shots !

Have you seen the prices????>....WOW.....some of these single shot makers love their actions dearly! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." The Savage favorite has a srp close to $350.00. Can get it for less of course and I would go for it in the 218 , 22 jet or even the hornet. Having anticipated ,to a large extent, the swings in ecconomy and specifically metal prices Some significant investments were made in Berger bullets at less than50% of todays prices and Mid Souths Varmint nite Mare bullets. These are of course .224 dia. bullets. It has come to me in a revolation that putting a 22 cal. hole in paper can be just as exciting as doing it with a larger more expensive cal. This is a big swing from a guy who use to get his kicks by building his own wildcats and testing them on game. Sure like your pupkinseed ,VD. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! I think I have some of those. Aren't they the ones with the pinned barrel, with a wide pin in a thin receiver? Weak little thin thing of an extractor, corrected in the late copies. I think there are some guys posting pictures of one's the built from scratch: http://www.homegunsmith.com/cg...8f5b9a9c1515bc7a4fde

I recall Jack Belk commenting that these actions were quite weak, comparatively- might be a bad choice for the Bee.
